Joseph D. Jamail

Joseph D. Jamail is a graduate of The University of Texas where he received his B.A. in 1950 and of The University of Texas School of Law where he received his L.L.B. in 1953. He is the Founder and Owner of the Jamail & Kolius law firm in Houston.  Mr. Jamail is most known as the famed trial attorney who won the landmark verdict in the Pennzoil v. Texaco case. He has been lead counsel in over two hundred personal injury cases where recovery, either by verdict or settlement, was in excess of $1 million. Mr. Jamail is an active member of the Inner Circle of Advocates, American College of Trial Lawyers, International Academy of Trial Lawyers, American Board of Trial Advocates, and many others.  

He is the recipient of many honors and awards, including the Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith Jurisprudence Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award of the Houston Texas-Ex Association. In 1996, he was awarded The University of Texas Distinguished Alumnus Award and received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from The University of Texas School of Law. In 1993, the “Joseph D. Jamail Center for Legal Research” was named in his honor at The School of Law. In 1996, the new pavilion that adjoins historic Townes Hall with the John B. Connally Center for the Administration of Justice was also named in his honor.  In 2012, The University of Texas School of Law Center for Clinical Education and Justice opened.  The Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark in Houston, TX is named in his honor.  Baylor College of Medicine opened the "Lee and Joe Jamail Specialty Care Center" in 2012.  The Baker Institute School of Social Sciences has opened "The Lee and Joseph D. Jamail West Wing" of James A. Baker, III Hall.  

In 2013, Mr. Jamail received The University of Texas Presidential Citation, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a living graduate by the University.  In 2014, Mr. Jamail received the University of Texas Longhorn Legend Award.  2014 also saw Mr. Jamail receive the Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) Joseph D. Jamail Award for Justice.  He has also received the Texas Lawyer Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
